Original 1916 Lithograph Signed F. Heckendorf and dated. Title in the plate.

Franz Heckendorf was born in Berlin and studied at the Berlin Kunstgewerbemuseum and the Akademie.

Beginning in 1909, he exhibited as par of the Berliner  Szession.

As a fighter pilot curing WWI, he was impressed by the landscapes of the Balkans, Turkey and the Middle East.

He developed an expressionist style, working in a vareity of mediums including pastel, oil, watercolor and print making. After the Nazis came to power, Heckendorf’s work was classified as “Entartete” or degenerate.
