(Wangen bei Olten 1886 - 1939 Bern)
Paul Schurch studied at the Art Academies of Karsruhe and Munich as well as at the Academie Colarossi in Paris. he was active as a painter of landscapes and still-lifes in his native region as well as in Ascona, Switzerland. Born in Olten, he has a particular affection for the rough landscapes of the Jura mountains.
Schuerch cut a tall and imposing figure with his wide rimmed black hat, flowing long dark hair and moustache. Accounts from the time indicate that the artist had love of drink which nearly equalled his passion for his art. This hard living lifestyle may have played a role in his early death, in 1939, at the age of 55.
Paul Schürch is listed in the Benezit and other major dictionaries of art and arists.
