Chalets in the Snow

Werner Engel was a painter and graphic artist from the beautiful city of Thun in the Canton of Bern.

He traveled extensively early in his life, but artistically his greatest inspiration was his native town and the surrounding landscape.

Engel's initial training was as a photographer, but he turned to painting beginning in 1902. In his work as a painter he was influenced by Hodler and by Cezanne.

He is listed in all major art directories, including the Benezit and the Vollmer.

This beautiful work is similar in style to the work of Segantini
