Chaises / Fauteuils - Dagobert

19th Century Dagobert Chairs

Set of two - Sculpted Monks heads - seats covered with Oriental carpet tapestry.

This late 19th Century style is known as Historicism (Historismus) since it draws on medieval and gothic influences.

This medieval style of chair, with it's X form at the center, is named for King Dagobert I, whose throne is in the Louvre.

King Dagobert I (602-638) ruled over the Franconianss for 15 years. He was counselled by his minister, Saint Eloi.

The relationship between these two personalities is the subject of an amusing 18th Century song, well known to French children.
