Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was a Flemish geographer and scholar. His major work, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum is considered the first true atlas. It was published in multiple editions between 1570 and 1612.
The map shows the Transyvania region of northern Romania. The Danube river can be seen lower right.
