Klosterarbeit or "Cloisters
Work" is the term used to describe a wide
range of religious folk art.
These marvelous
pieces combine intricate work of cut paper,
wax, saints names carefully written out on paper,
and have the look of tiny personal reliquaries.
To the modern eye, they look very much like
Cornell Boxes, assemblies of found objects and
delicate handwork.
Originally these works were usually
made by nuns in cloisters and sold at holy sites
throughout Europe.
5 X 7 inches - 1.5 inches deep.
