Finely handpainted
copperplate prints re-engraved by Johann Michael
Seligmann (1720-1762) for his “Sammlung
verschiedener auslandischer und seltener Vogel”
published in 1749.
These engravings by Seligmann were based on the
original plates from Mark Catesby's "Natural
History of Carolina, Florida and Islands. In some
cases Seligmann rearranged Catesby's original
images or added additional flowers and plants
for artistic effect.
