Tete de Joseph
Extraordinary Large Scale 18th Century Copperplate engraving "in the Crayon manner" - en manière de crayon.
Engraved by the famous Swedish Engraver Jacob Gillberg (1724-1793).
Signed Detroux Fecit, Gillberg Sculpsit
This marvelous engraving has the presence and drama to make itself the centerpiece of the room.
It is very similar in style to the famous mid-18th century crayon manner engravings of Francois Boucher.
Condition: As shown, the edges are rough, and there is some spotting in several places. None of these slight blemishes detract from the beauty and drama of this piece, which we consider one of the finest examples of the "maniere crayon" - crayon manner of engraving which we have seen.
Engraved on beautiful old chainlinked hand laid paper.
Dimensions: Approx 16 X 23 inches
(41 X 58 cm)
