Karl Friedrich Irminger
(1813-1863)
Portrait of a handsome Zurich gentleman of
the Biedermeier period.
Lithograph, probably after a Daguerreotype.
Karl Friedrich Irminger was a well known Zurich-based
portraitist, engraver and lithographer. His
works included portaits of military men, caricatures,
and illustrations for Zurich "New Year's
Sheets" (Neujahrsblaetter)
He is listed in the Benezit.
Despite his successful early career, Irminger
died in deep poverty in March 1863.
This sheet suffers from some foxing in the
margins and there are some bits of tape at the
edges of the image. But the overall effect of
the image is stunning. The sitter is a very
elegant living presence from another time.
This antique litho is also availalbe as a reproduction on Zazzle.
