From "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds" published between 1743 and 1751.

Engraved map with images of the beak of an Egyptian Ibis, male and female stag beetles from Borneo and a Lear Humming Bird from Jamaica.

 

Annotation: Itinera Varia Auctoris (The map shows various routes taken by the author as he traveled to document bird, plant and animal life.)


We do not know which edition this plate is from.

Engraved on old chainlinked paper. No watermark.

 

Condition: Three tears: One from top center to the tip of the Ibis beak. -- small hole over head of lower beetle. -- Tear lower center, runs from edge up to the top of the letter N in FRANCE. Strong crease through center. Some light toning. A few light spots. Cut to platemark. Overall attractive impression and damage will not be conspicuous once matted and framed.
